I like to use Jim Snidero's book "Jazz Conceptions" for many beginner to advanced students to study etudes that will help them internalize the ins and outs of what professionals play in their improvisation. I also encourage students to experiment on their own time on what kind of music they want to play, while also encouraging them to practice material that will propel their musicianship, especially for beginner and intermediate students. Beyond this, I try to create dialogue that encourages student's to become so adept that they can actually teach themselves. While I've taught all ages, I currently am only accepting highschool and online students for online instruction. The first half of a typical voice lesson is spent on vocal warm-ups and vocalises. These consist of scales, arpeggios, vowel unification, breath work, etc. and have been accumulated from many teachers over a variety of traditions. Vocalises are the most important part of a solid vocal technique. The second half of lessons is spent working on repertoire either brought in by the student or assigned by myself.
