I like to build units or goals for each student when private teaching . It helps me and the student know what needs to be worked on. I also tend to be a visual instructor , meaning I like to use tricks to teach students different vocal technique. Although I do not mind accommodating to a students needs if their instruction is to be taught differently. My love for singing started when I was eight years old. I grew up singing in the Los Angeles Childrens Chorus which gave me much experience as a working musician starting at age eleven. I sang alongside notable alumnus Billie Eilish, as well as with Gustavo Dudamel, the LA Phil, and the LA Master Chorale. I am completing my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst this year and plan to continue my studies of voice and vocal pedagogy in my graduate studies. For beginning students who are children (3-7 years old), I typically start with the nice songs, which involve dance, animal sounds, musical games, simple percussion instruments, clapping, funny- playful movements. With the older children (8-14) we start learning staff, keys, music notes, basic scales, more complex songs, but still keep the playfulness. It's important to identify the natural transitions throughout a student's voice, usually based on classical technique for healthy sound production. We will be able to reconcile the voice with the music that the student is interested in singing, all styles are welcome!
