I approach each student differently because each person has different strengths, needs, and goals. No two lessons are ever taught the same way because each one is tailored to the individual. I am happy to work with students on specific repertoire for auditions or other events, and/or on general literature simply for the love of singing and the joy of growth. It is important to realize that much of success depends on the motivation of the student and that there are no "quick fixes," but if we work together with realistic expectations, everyone will be successful. I want my students to feel inspired and motivated, and feel comfortable progressing at their own pace. As a teacher and mentor, my priority is to help the student set and work towards their own goals. My teaching expertise is classical and musical theater, and I believe that students can be very successful branching out to different styles from this technical foundation. I encourage my students to learn music theory as well as vocal techniques to become well rounded musicians. Read More

I use my own technique exercises that I write and cater for each of my students. I am a huge fan of the Arban's technique book for brass, but I like to keep lessons fun with songs that challenge my students at their level. Once the student has progressed to the intermediate level - solid fundamentals, musicianship, and a desire for learning - I introduce solo repertoire. These solo pieces range from simple etudes to full orchestral arrangements for their specific instrument. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Students are able to select their own music and share their interests with me. Read More
