My method of coaching focuses on three main areas: diaphragmatic breathing, vocal fold alignment, and proper laryngeal positioning. These three areas have a direct impact on tone quality, placement and ease of transition from chest voice to mix voice. The first few lessons with a new student always begins with good diaphragmatic breathing exercises combined with edging techniques for fold alignment up to the first vocal bridge. For beginner students, we start off using the beginning books from "Piano Adventures" by Faber Faber, and published by Hal Leonard. They learn to read music, improvise, music theory, and play all style of music. A typical lesson for an elementary school student would be 10 min of playing assigned pieces that they've practiced for the week, 10 min of new songs for the next week, 5 min of music theory, and 5 min of some sort of musical game. I then went on to attend Belmont University in their award winning B.F.A. Musical Theatre program. I had a focus on Classical Voice and Musical Theatre.
