For beginning students who are children, I typically start with what they feel most comfortable and provide them with lots of encouragement. I also teach them basics to Music Theory, such as note names and how to read music. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce more advanced repertoire as they gain confidence in their ability. Once that is accomplished, together we develop a plan that fits the needs and goals of that student. For beginning students who are children, I typically assign musical theater pieces that will develop their skill and technique but not be too daunting for early singers. My number one goal is to help my students accomplish their musical dreams, whether that be a classical pianist, a pop singer, the front person for a rock band, write songs or compose music for film, or just sing their favorite song of all time, whatever it takes, I will make sure that we get to the musical destination.
