When a student first starts lessons, we establish a few goals to accomplish over the semester, such as "become more confident" or, "learn a foreign language piece". I usually prefer a phone call or use the first lesson to guage the interest level, previous experience, and goals of the student and/or parents. I have used a variety of teaching books and methods, and will generally try to contour my methods to the needs of students while also keeping costs low. I do not often rquire students to purchase expensive music books, and prefer using repetoire and music directly relevant to students long and short-term goals. Read More

For every student I always start with the basics. What are the basics? Well, first and most important for getting you started is open chords. That along with pentatonic scales will really help to develope finger dexterity and get the student adjusted to proper hand and finger positioning on the guitar.
