A student must be comfortable enough to take the risks that are necessary to grow as a musician. Sometimes those risks will result in what seems to be a failure. I try to reinforce the idea that it is not a failure because you tried, what can we use from that experience to get closer to what you were trying to accomplish next time. Anyone willing to put in the effort and put their talent on display for correction and review is very brave and I honor that bravery. Read More

The student who speaks or plays their instrument more also practices and learns more. Students need opportunity to play along with more experience performers and I seek out every chance to insert my students into this role. I have secured opportunities for students to be the opening act for Texas country star Jolie Holiday. Recently my high school vocal student was the youngest semi-finalist in the OK City Stars competition. Read More

My favorite thing about teaching is getting to discover how others learn. The approach I use for one student will not always work for another. I think every person has a unique learning style and I love to develop new ways to teach concepts to my students. I work to encourage my students to be an active participant in setting and achieving goals in our work together, while maintaining a fun, positive atmosphere. Read More

Voice Lessons: I start my lessons with vocal warmups and excercises to help strengthen and develop a students vocal abilities. After vocalizing, I begin working on the repertoire that I have assigned the prior week. The songs that each student will sing will depend on what style he/she may be interested in performing or studying. I always choose age appropriate material, and a piece that the student will enjoy. For children, I focus on the comprehension of pitch and note reading. If the child has a song that he or she wants to sing, then we will pursue it if it is vocally fitting. If not, I have a variety we can choose from. We also will pursue the fundamentals of music theory in our lessons as well. Teenagers to adults can also pursue the fundamentals of music theory or beyond depending on their current knowledge. Read More

I always start with a strong Classical Foundation, and also specialize in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Styles. Some students love classical music, and we work on Italian arias...while others love 80s Metal Bands, and we work on healthy ways to approach contemporary music. For Musical Theatre, I make sure my students have a wide range of genres at the ready, so they are equally prepared to audition for both My Fair Lady or Hamilton. Read More
