I will start my beginner piano lessons with "Teaching Little Fingers to Play" "John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course Part I." Basic music theory such as determining lines spaces (Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge F.A.C.E) and basic 1-5 fingering patterns. Depending on the level of the beginner, we could practice "Hot Cross Buns," "Mary Had a Little Lamb" "Happy Birthday" or "Ode to Joy." I will assess students based on knowledge of music theory and muscle memory/ability to play. Read More

I've been teaching singing lessons for over a decade, to all students levels and ages, and I saw them successfully reaching their musical goals with confidence and passion, and that has been very rewarding for me. I always start from a very solid foundation on vocal technique, breath control, to move with expanding their vocal range, stamina, and vocal agility. I encourage my students to challenge themselves in performances, and auditions, so we also focus our work on preparing an appropriate repertoire, working on stage presence, performance skills, and stage fright, if any. I am both goal-oriented and open-ended with my students. At the beginning of lessons, I always check in with them to see how their progress was for the week and any questions or concerns that arose in their practice. I find this puts the ownership on them to reflect on their week of music making (and help them to remember that practice happens more than just in the lesson!). Often, students come to me with interesting observations and questions about their instrument and it engages them more personally. Read More

As a piano teacher, my approach to education aligns with the Classical Model, emphasizing the development of critical thinking and listening skills alongside fundamental reading, writing, and thinking abilities. I believe in fostering a classroom environment that encourages participation and engagement, utilizing varied historical themes and musical materials to promote analysis of primary and secondary sources. To ensure all students can succeed, I provide a range of methods and assignments, including writing assignments, office hours, and exam review outlines. Read More

My first experience giving lessons actually began eight years ago with my first instrument, the guitar. I have been playing guitar since I was 7 years old, though I still consider Voice my main instrument. This was my first experience teaching and everything I needed to unleash the excitement and passion my instructors had shown me throughout my life. Since then I have been teaching beginner level piano and beginner to intermediate voice lessons in both my home state of Michigan, and the greater Boston area. Read More

I started voice lessons the year before I went to college. I always loved music and singing, no matter the genre. I fell in love with opera shortly after starting at Westminster and found my passion in performing the classical art form. I have been fortunate in that I have always been surrounded by amazing teachers who were passionate and driven. They always pushed me past what I thought I was capable of and guided me along the way. I try to incorporate different exercises for each piece of music to keep things interesting for my students. I believe active physical engagement of the body is important to achieve freedom for the voice. This is particularly helpful for younger children to keep their minds from wandering during the lesson. I often ask for feedback from the students, to check in on how they are feeling physically and vocally. During our lessons, I hope to train up students to be creative thinkers and discerning individuals so that they can find their own authentic interpretation of the song. Read More
