For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style. I encourage my vocalists to explore different styles and techniques to find the best fit for their instruments. I also teach theory and sight singing using various different methods and tools. I began teaching private voice lessons to high school-age children in 2016. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people ages 5-30. The Metropolitan Opera Guild was an excellent teaching experience, where my mentors included teachers at Lincoln Center and New England Conservatory alumni. As a participant in NEC's Vocal Pedagogy program, I had the experience of teaching lessons to my colleagues in NEC Opera. I am a singer/songwriter/keyboardist. I graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Salem State University, where I studied voice piano. I have a background in musical theater and have been performing in shows for about ten years. I sing in the band and the choir weekly at Second Congregational Church in Peabody.
