I approach teaching by focusing on the student. I find out what they need and want first. We set realistic goals together and I give them the tools to help them reach their goals. I don't want my students to be entirely dependent on me. I like to give them exercises to do on their own in between lessons so that time doesn't go to waste and they can see quicker improvement with their own practicing. Read More

My primary goal is to fill the student with the love of guitar and the passion to continue and grow. This is accomplished by continuing to challenge the student while keeping the process as interesting and fun as possible. I encourage the student to choose songs they want to work on rather than my dictating the music. This keeps it fun and interesting, and sometimes presents a challenge for me if their tastes are a little eclectic. Read More

I began teaching music in 2006 while still in college, and I have worked at a variety of different music schools and teaching companies, most notably at the University of Southern California. I taught and maintained a small voice studio of my own in New York City for four years before the pandemic forced me back to the west coast to care for my family. I typically work with a wide variety of students with different ages and backgrounds, and I pride myself on offering a holistic and trauma informed approach to the study of voice and singing. I've also found that a combination of classical, traditional world music and modern music have a very students enjoy the singing or playing and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I create a fun and relaxed environment on my lessons to make students learn new things with interest and develop their skills without any fear and blocks. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I believe that choosing lesson material should always be a collaborative experience between student and teacher. Flexibility is one of my core values in teaching music, as I’ve found that each student has unique interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses. Rather than going into lessons with a set curriculum, I like to give students some agency over what they’d like to learn while making sure to cover fundamentals as they apply along the way. Read More
