I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have sung with the Houston Symphony Chorus, Dallas Symphony Chorus, Mesquite Community Chorus, ASU Graduate and Doctoral chorales, and many worship teams, I have been in many musicals and was the lead in "Pirates of Penzance" and "The Consul". After completing my BA in public relations I was awarded a teaching assistantship at the University of Arkansas to teach the basic speech requirement. I became pregnant and did not complete my MA but began teaching private piano lessons part time while raising my children. As the needs of my family changed I began working with children in other ways such as coaching ball teams.
