I am a passionate musician, educator, conductor, and composer, and I have been happily obsessed with music since I began piano lessons at age 10. I joined the school band program in 6th grade, and since then, I have learned how to play and teach many different instruments. My teaching style is fairly easy going. I don't force unrealistic expectations on students because everyone is learning music for a different reason. I like to figure out what their reason is and progress accordingly. If it's a young student looking to continue music throughout their school career, I will make sure they learn how to read sufficiently and I will make sure they know how to play with peers by performing with the student as an accompanist. Depending on experience level I like to get people making music as soon as possible. I know that trudging through the basics can be tiring. Of course some basics are neccesary but I like to make the basics sound as musical as possible. We will cover the fundamentals but we'll do so in such a way that it won't feel like so much work. I like to use books, depending on skill level, for reference but I have a very hands on approach and feel that the best work to be done together is the stuff that can't be found in the book. Read More
