I like to first get a feel for the students abilities and asses how to teach them by breaking things down to their bare essentials before suggesting a good book to go through and the right exercises. I find that most young students or beginners need to see some form of result to stay engaged so I try and get them moving with sticks on a pad or even learning a basic drum beat within the first two lessons. The most important thing in my lesson is to have fun. I really care if students are having fun, and I will always find a way to bring them a great joy of playing music. Another thing that's really important is to make sure that students are learning what they truly wants to learn. In the begging of lesson, I always ask a student about what they want to learn specifically. Read More

I have been teaching for about 6 years and my students cover a wide range of ages and backgrounds. Everyone comes in with their own goals and I try as best I can to tailor our lesson experience around that. Percussion/Drumming is a unique instrument or set of instruments that lends itself to so many different genres and musical spheres, which makes the trajectory of our specific lessons unique. Almost every student will learn the basics of rudimental drumming and learning basic notation but what keeps students engaged and wanting to practice is playing something that they enjoy and want to play. I always try to make my classes fun and engaging. I manage a very particular teaching method based on how I have learned from my mentors. On the first class I ask what the student's interest is and what would make him/her happy to learn, how the student imagines playing and what styles of music are the favorites ones. If the student is beginner, I like to start teaching basic knowledge of instrument technique accompanied by easy rhythms so that the student feels motivated. Read More

I believe that if a student seems to be loosing interest in the instrument or doesn't feel like practising, it's because the teacher is not making enough efforts to teach that student. I try to understand the personality of each student and give them instruction based on their interests and learning pace. I balance technique and performance on a daily basis so that the student can see results and feel motivated. Read More

For all students I access what your musical background is and what may be lacking from your knowledge and playing. I also ask what your particular goals and things you would like to learn are. From there then we will start to tailor the lesson as both us see fit. In general I like a student to be able to play three simple melodies before moving on to chords, rhythms, and music theory.
