My experience with teaching began when I would work at the local music store in Springfield Va. during summer breaks. Even though I graduated with a Bachelors in Performance, teaching was something I enjoyed having seen progress with students. After college, teaching became a part time job for me and has at times, become more important than performing or recording. Being that I had such a range of talented instructors at Berklee, and experience with lessons from other pro drummers, I feel I have many angles to draw from and can apply that to different students needs. I started teaching while in college, beginning in 1987 and gradually progressed to teaching as a career in 1994. I have taught at the collegiate level at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I have also taught award-winning drumlines at Calvert Hall College, Lansdowne High School and Dulaney High School, all in the Baltimore metropolitan area. I have taught students of a wide age range, including students as young as 5 to older adults in their 60's and 70's. Read More

My teaching style is a mix of fun and education. I was a student who struggled with ADD and I want to make each student's learning experience fun as the rudiments are mastered. I include drum set sheet music, and learning the student's favorite songs at their pace. If they need help with school band charts they are welcomed to bring them for study at the lesson. For my young kids between ages 6-10, I teach them power chord structures for rock n blues. We learn how to read rhythmic notation and apply those concepts to popular rock tunes. Afterwards [4-6 weeks], I brielfy take them through a book called "Rock Guitar For Kids", which teaches all the fun applications for modern, rock n blues guitar. For teens and adults, I design their own curriculum based on their music goals and the music they want to learn. Read More
