I began teaching private guitar lessons while I was still in high-school. After I completed my degree at Berklee in 2004, I began teaching six days a week. Since then, I've consistently maintained a roster of 30-40 weekly students in addition an active gig-schedule. Seeing students gain a love and understanding of music and do things that they never thought possible has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Read More

I work to custom-tailor my lessons for each individual student based on their skill level and musical tastes (my main areas of focus for guitar are in the pop/rock/folk/indie genres ranging back to the 60s up to current music and classical/pop/electronic for piano/keys). I believe the best way to learn music is to play music that excites you. I teach everything from technique to theory using the students favorite songs and adjusting them as needed. Read More

The most rewarding thing about teaching is seeing my students cultivate their love for music, and self-confidence in their sound! In order to best achieve this, the most fundamental understanding is that each student learns and progresses at his or her own pace! With this in mind, I believe the best way to achieve results is to set realistic goals for each lesson - goals that utilize skills practiced in the lesson, yet set the stage for the next lesson are most ideal. Repertoire includes any songs or pieces that students are interested in learning and will be arranged to scaffold their current skill level. My teaching also places a special emphasis in improvisation - since much of modern guitar music is written from a place of improvisation and involves improvising, I believe it is a vital skill for students to have. Even a beginning understanding of improvising will give students a fresh new perspective on the music they enjoy and will give them the skills to play with any musician they may meet. Read More
