I have taught music since 1994, when I was in college. What was at first a part time job blossomed into a full time job when local music stores and luthiers began recommending me. I have a strong roster of about 30 students, and maintain it mostly through word of mouth and recommendations. I teach out of my private studio, as well as people's homes. I have trained students for recitals, recording, various types of bands, and competitions. Read More

Learning to play an instrument is a skill that can last a lifetime. The benefits of perseverance, resilience, and positive self-esteem are also powerful forces in a student's development. With that in mind, I create a safe where students feel comfortable working to improve their musicianship. By acknowledging progress, students are excited to push themselves to accomplish their goals in music! By taking this student-centered approach, my students are excited to grow on their instrument. My approach depends completely upon the genre and goals of my students and their skill level. For beginners, I must always take a lesson to explain exactly what each part of the instrument is and how it works. For rock and pop students, the very first thing I will teach them are open chords and the pentatonic scale, and maybe even a simple song depending upon the student. For classical, I like to start out with simple sight reading exercises and move on to material that applies the principles I teach. Read More

I have been teaching guitar for more than 10 years. I have taught different ages (6 to 60!) and students with opposite tastes and styles of music and that made me aware of the many possibilities and directions one can take. My experience as a teacher taught me to adapt to the students goals while being able to communicate the formal methods or strategies that define the understanding of music as a whole. Read More

The most important people in my life have always been my teachers. Teachers in my life have been to thank for my greatest triumphs and to no one else do I owe such a great debt. However, careless teachers have driven many students away from a musical life, and left indelible scars on others. Thus, it is with the greatest respect and acknowledgment of responsibility that I approach my teaching style. Read More

I started out as a percussionist, studying throughout high school and in to college at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. During my time in Boston, I discovered a bustling bluegrass music scene and my focus switched to stringed instruments, namely the mandolin and the violin. Since College, I have been using all veins of traditional music to join in and build communities of artists. I'm very well connected in the New York City Bluegrass, Irish, and Jazz scenes. Read More

A hybrid of traditional notation, playing by ear, basic right and left hand technique followed by custom lesson plans based on individual students' interests and artistic direction. My style is generally as relaxed or as focused as the student is ready for. Meaning that if the student is able to practice an hour or more a day that will lead to a more focused atmosphere, and if there's less time to practice then we adjust accordingly. Read More
