With 20+ years of experience with guitar, vocals, drums, and percussion, and a stylistic reach that includes everything from jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, funk, and soul to classic rock, pop, singer-songwriter, Latin, reggae, world music, and beyond, I will assist you in cultivating the essential tools to take your musical journey to the next level, regardless of your age and musical background. Beginning in grade school when I started giving lessons to friends and family members, I have taught students from all walks of life; have had students that were young, old, and everything in between; and have taught both individuals who had never even touched an instrument in their lives and students who had been playing for many years. Students will always be encouraged to learn more scales, more octaves, and the full range chromatic scale. All students are encouraged to learn a solo appropriate to their playing level. Older students interested in auditioning for All-Region bands, will work on etudes to prepare for those honor band auditions. We will also prepare excerpts for various auditions like the Lone Star Youth Orchestra, etc, if students are interested in that. Read More

Depending on my student's age and skill level I usually have them begin with Suzuki books, Essential Elements books, or a combination of the two. As students advance I often incorporate etudes and/or exercises by Lee, Dotzauer, Galamian, Mooney, Sevcik, Duport, and Popper. While ear training is an essential skill that I teach to all of my students, the younger a student is the more I'll have them "play by ear" instead of reading sheet music. Read More

The biggest joy in teaching and working with students is seeing them develop a passion and love for music. My teaching experience is very hands on and I love to model everything that I teach. It's important for my students to progress at his or her own pace and I encourage this by setting goals for my students at each lesson. Positive reinforcement goes such a long way and I love letting my students know when they are making progress or accomplish something. Read More

I have worked with many music methods and numerous curriculums: Alfred, Faber, Piano Pronto, Hal Leonard, Bastian, Eric Steiner Rice, Faber, Dogs and Birds, Mr. Everybody's Musical Apt., Sandy Hoffman, Carol Tournquist etc. to name a few. I start out with a general introduction and progress to choosing the core curriculum according to the student's ability and desire in music. Music is a vast Science and lessons plans will be created around your goal in music rather than a rigid method, though we will adhere to curriculum to be sure that we are thorough and you receive a complete music education. I have general curriculum, genre' specific curriculum such as Jazz, Blues etc. as well as curriculum geared toward training Church Musicians. Read More
Instruments: Voice French Horn
Since each student begins and progresses at a differing pace, I strive to create realistic goals for each student at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments along the way always help to improve their desire to learn more. My goal is for the student to enjoy the learning experience as much as I enjoy the teaching experience! This, in turn, leads to a student's increased self confidence as a musician. Performing in a recital or other venue reinforces the student's progress and ability to communicate through music.
