I start the student first by using The Mastery book by William Dick and Laurie Scott to learn the basic technique of the instrument. As soon as I think the student is ready I start teaching simple songs by rote. My teaching style is relaxed but focused. Understanding that each student develops at his or her own pace, I am patient and willing to answer any questions as we move along. I will set a goal for each lesson, and provide material to practice in between meetings. It's important to me that I find out what the student's goals are to ensure we are heading in the right direction. Regardless of ability, I find it very important for students to learn songs that they know well and are personally enjoyable for them to listen to. Read More

Jazz trumpeter and composer Jeff L. is a Grammy member and two time SXSW Austin Music Awards winner. Jeff has performed at One World Theater, Stateside at the Paramount, and the Long Center for the Performing Arts since his arrival on the Austin music scene in 2007. His creativity, musical integrity and talent has been well-received in both his 1950's Miles Davis tribute as well as his original material.  He has performed at jazz venues such as Snug Harbor in New Orleans, and The Iridium, in NY, as well as regional central Texas performance venues.
