I often try to get my students to hear what I hear in their playing by asking them questions. My goal is that the questions that I ask of them will be the questions they begin to ask themselves in their personal practice. Instead of telling a student directly that they may be playing a rhythm incorrectly or that they need to correct their bow technique, I ask them to reexamine that aspect of their playing and they often come up with the solution with some guidance. Tailoring my lessons to the individuals musical aptitude and level of interest has contributed to my long-term success as a music teacher. By tailoring my lessons to the individual, Im better able to facilitate an atmosphere where students come to enjoy their educational experience to help build an effective program that meets their personal ambitions. Over the years Ive learned when ambition is paired with application, the resulting outcome can be very fulfilling. Read More

My method is the chest mix head method. I teach lessons about chest, mix, and head voice and how to smoothly transition between them and eventually have them become one. I help students find their range, I teach proper breathing techniques and warm ups that are right for helping them reach their full voice potential and even assist with choosing the perfect song for auditions and give audition confidence prep tips from someone who has auditioned and made performance roles in musical theatre productions in Pittsburgh Pa. Children often encounter obstacles with regard to motor-skill development issues (i.e., usually their hands don't work well enough under the age of ten to develop many of the skills required to play the guitar) so a more general musical exploration is often called for. This can involve singing when the child is open to that. With teenagers and adults, I like to discover what their interests and goals are and tailor the lesson in accordance. Read More

I recommend that anyone starting to learn music begins at the age of ten simply because of finger strength and focus. I also try to ensure that they practice at a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes a day between lessons to help them reach their full potential. I stand by the "practice makes perfect" saying wholeheartedly. I give small amounts of homework after every lesson and try to create a fun environment for learning that is stress-free. Read More
