With the beginning students I use Alfred and Bastien piano instructional books. Also, the children simultaneously learn to read notes and understand music notation. In my teaching method the goal is to combine high level of technique with musicality and individual interpretation. The beginners’ lessons are systematized as a successful blend of fun musical games and new academic material, thus learning new is fun and inspiring. My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. My teaching style allows students to make music from the beginning, helping to motivate them with attractive songs, which can be used as technique building exercises. I encourage my students to practice and set goals at each lesson. They would be able to work at their own pace. Playing duets with the teacher is also a fun activity, and listening to good players recordings will inspire them.
