I like to start out with a basic curriculum and adjust according to how quickly the student absorbs information. Through my experience as a piano instructor and former music student, I understand that everyone learns at a different pace and has different backgrounds of experience which I fell will make the teacher student relationship unique. Depending on the speed of understanding, I present more challenges through various activities, technical exercises, and individual performances for peers to showcase what has been learned. Read More
Instruments: Cello
For younger students, I will be using Suzuki Cello School to guide instruction. When students have successfully completed the Suzuki books, I will introduce them to pieces that would be suitable for a recital performance. For adults, I will base instruction off of Suzuki but also find material that will keep the learning process fun and enjoyable. This would include any modern or contemporary pieces that students are familiar with. Read More
Instruments: Piano Drums Keyboard
Beginner students of any age will be playing music with the band during the first lesson! Although my curriculum is deep-seated in good technique, I believe it is important for students to develop fluidity and expressiveness from the very beginning. I am an accomplished keyboard player and utilize this skill to accompany my drum set students while they play grooves and lesson exercises so they can understand how it all "goes together". Read More
Instruments: Piano Organ Synthesizer Recorder
I have been using the Alfred Method Books for my beginning piano students, as they provide a well-rounded program incorporating theory, technique and performance. pieces. Intermediate students should, in my opinion, begin to choose the music they want to work on. I like my students to learn how to read music as well as play by ear, how to practice and how to incorporate theory into performance. Most of all, I want all my students to deeply feel the joy of music making, and discover the vast universe of music that we all can share and enjoy. Read More
Instruments: Flute Piccolo
I began teaching flute lessons in college about 10 years ago. In addition to private lessons I have assisted with school concert and marching bands. In the beginning I like to ask each student what their goal is so that we can work towards that, whether it is to become first chair in band, make All-State, play for Solo Ensemble, perform with their church, or to just have fun and learn a new skill.
