Hi! I'm Zoe, a conservatory-trained classical and musical theater vocalist. I have over 10 years of experience teaching private vocal and piano lessons, working with students of all levels in classical, musical theater, and jazz styles. My teaching approach combines vocal exercises to assess progress, technique-focused repertoire, and student-selected music to keep lessons engaging and fun. I emphasize building a strong foundation in technique while fostering confidence and healthy vocal habits. Read More

Nothing beats seeing one of my pupils acquire an interest in music! As a result, each student must proceed at their rate. At each lesson, I promote this by setting realistic goals for my pupils, either learning the most challenging parts of a song or just learning a simple phrase that was hard previously. Recognizing accomplishments fuels students' desire to advance and prepares them to learn more. By attempting to discover what motivates the student, I can appropriately personalize my training to their wants and needs. Read More

I began teaching part time in September of 2015 with a handful of private students in Midtown Manhattan. This has since grown and I have worked with experience levels ranging from never-before-sung to moderately advanced students. Since the technique I utilize is based in creating healthy sound, it can be applied everywhere: the emphasis of relaxing and expanding one's body-awareness makes it applicable to everyone including those who have been studying for years, or are even choosing to continue study with another teacher simultaneously. I use the first lesson to assess the skill level of the student. If the student is a beginner from this assessment, I will ensure they purchase the Stick Control Book by Kevin Barret to begin working on reading for the snare drum. I will also make sure that they begin to understand and practice the 26 rudiments which is essential for every drummer to know. For more advanced students, we would focus on their specific goals, whether strictly related to four way coordination, styles that they want to enhance and support in live or recording settings, as well as mentorship on building a community in music and getting gigs. My musical lesson or lecture is a creative process where there is no teacher and students, but there are senior and younger colleagues who create in common this process of creativity. The creative growth of the student is defined not by quantity of the learnt homework, but by quality of employment and display of his creative activity in any process. I should always take into account interest of the student and direct him on his way, chosen by him: (classics or another stiles). Read More

My method of teaching for beginning students is I try to feel what are the aspirations and goals of the student and try to fit a method that he/she will develop his musical skills and at the same time have fun doing it. I have various book methods I can choose from to apply. For adults, I find out what are the aspirations and what the student is looking for to gain in his lessons. Read More
