Hi! I'm Zoey Z. I'm a pianist and a composer from China. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a bachelor's degree in film scoring. I learned piano when I was five, and I studied classical piano performance at one of the most prestigious music schools in China: Xinghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 11. When I was 18, I studied at Longy School of Music (Cambridge, MA) and majored in Piano Performance. Read More
Instruments: Piano Saxophone Organ Synthesizer Keyboard
I play saxophone and keyboards in a nationally touring funk band. We regularly headline music festivals and currently focus our shows in and around New England. I've also recorded on several acclaimed artists' albums. I have a background in jazz and studied Piano and Saxophone Performance and Jazz Composition at Berklee College of Music. My teachers were amazing as I progressed through the schools. And they were so fun and inspiring that I want to make playing piano or saxophone as exciting and rewarding for you as it was for me! Instruments: Drums Conga Latin Percussion
My first priority when I meet a student is to nurture and begin to stoke their own fire and love for rhythm, music and the drums. I want the student to be happy, and to have fun. Progress is obviously one of my primary goals as well, however I don't believe a student can begin to make valid musical progress if they are not enjoying themselves. I belive I have crafted a perfectly balanced approach to teaching - I know exactly how to tailor to the needs of each student, and exactly how to work at their rate of learning. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Bass Guitar
I have taught guitar since high school. I have had a ranging experience from teaching middle schoolers, to high schoolers, to adults. With each student, I assess where they are with their knowledge of the instrument, as well as how far their passion for music goes. In high school, I simply taught the fundamentals of the guitar as I knew it, making sure that my students played guitar correctly. As I grew musically and in my teaching methods, I understood that mixing in songs that my students knew into their lessons actually boosted the desire to play, and also made my job more efficient in conveying the reasons for good fundamentals while allowing a student to enjoy playing guitar. Instruments: Saxophone Music
From then on, we can start on method books--I generally use either Essential Elements or Standard of Excellence--and some extra short pieces I compose for them based on their needs. I also spend time working on ear training and overtone control as soon a I think a student is ready. The sooner they learn these elements, the easier it will be for them to learn more. For more advanced students, I like basing lessons around repertoire, but that repertoire can vary a great deal based on their needs. Read More
