My teaching experience began when I was in college. I began teaching flute, clarinet, and saxophone lessons out of a music store in Upstate New York in 2016. This time was largely spent with complete beginners on their instruments, and it was incredibly rewarding. I focused on a balance of fundamentals like scales and long tones, formal repertoire such as classical and jazz pieces, and time for whatever the student was interested in whether that be pop, hip hop, or rock music. Piano For beginning piano students who are children, I usually start with my own lesson sheets I composed. I also entertain kids by having them color and draw notes and scales. After being familiar with fundamentals, depending on students progress, I recommend them to study with Hal Leonard's or Alfred's. Often times I will have a student do a bit of songwriting, maybe a couple lines - even though they didn't think that was an interest of theirs, but I've found that using many creative tools it allows for a student to hear THEIR own voice more clearly. Nothing is more exciting than seeing one of students enjoying playing the piano, I try to determine what inspires each students and set realistic goals for them. To some students , I encourage them to practice only a few measures, while another student may complete the entire piece. I love to see students grasp concepts.  It is extremely rewarding to see students understand a concept and be able to explain how neat it is to a parent or friend.  When I get a new student, I get to know exactly what their goals are.  We set long term goals, and we make progress by setting manageable short term goals every week.  I inspire the student to reach their goals by providing tools to help, and custom lesson plans that are fun and engaging.
