Although I have taken several college classes in music -- everything from music theory to Garage Band (music software) -- most of my education as a musician, and as a music teacher, has come from real-life musicians! I've personally grown up with many excellent piano players, drummers and singers, so I've been taught by the best. My first love was piano, and currently I sing and play the drums in my church choir. I began teaching shortly before I graduated high school in 2012. My high school had a very successful marching band program and was closely tied with a local drum corps, which helped me become experienced in leading group rehearsals and clinics for drumlines and front ensembles around this time. Leading in to college, I continued this and also began teaching students individually which only helped to underline my love of teaching! Read More

I am a passionate instructor who believes that learning to speak this universal language is one of the best ways to bring communities and people together. I graduated from Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver June of 2019 and have been teaching privately for the past two years. Aside from teaching I perform at local venues around Denver with bands of all different genres. I also organize events involving live music, art, and food to promote Denver's local artists and raise awareness for Orpheus Music + Arts Festival: a project I started last year and plan to keep cultivating. For beginning young students, I typically start with Music Tree or Piano Adventure. Once the student has progressed, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adult students, after seeing their level of playing, I would find the style of music that they are interested in. If students are interested in learning specific music pieces, we can focus on that until feeling comfortable and confident then move on to similar style so we can keep that interest going then move on to more advanced pieces. The first thing I do when teaching a student is to learn what musical goals and aspirations the student may have. Then, depending on age and experience, I build a custom program for the student, which may include using various books, resources, and even materials which I have created. I have found that this is not only the most effective way for me to teach but also the most effective way to connect with students where they are and for them to learn at their own pace while also enjoying the process. It is important to install a sense of confidence and feeling of progression when teaching, so I make sure to acknowledge every student's progress along with the desired improvements. Everyone can improve at every skill level, so I believe it is important to let the student know the amount of progress they've achieved from hard work. Belittling is not something I believe is an effective method of having someone fall in love with anything, especially not music. Read More

I ask all of my students to be prepared for their lessons with a notebook and pencil for lesson notes and assignments. I ask them to bring any materials they have and will often recommend books and supplemental material I have had success with. I believe in writing down notes that help students understand what they are learning, exactly what students should practice, and setting goals for their practice and overall progress. Read More
