I am very much a goal-oriented and visual person, so I like to set clear goals for my students. I like to get to know my students personally and create a more open relationship. Some students learn much quicker than others and that is okay! But, I do always encourage my students to progress using proper techniques to prevent burnout and any injuries. I am very flexible with my students and will always adapt to the way they learn best. Read More

I am very patient and responsibe teacher. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction on their wants and needs. Read More

My teaching experience started the last year of attending Heidelberg University when I was required to instruct a high school student drum lessons as part of my internship. After graduation in 1991 I had my first vocal student in my home. In 1995 is when I had my first experience teaching in a music store environment. The store was known as Howland's Music World and was there until 1997. I have taught students individually and in sectionals and drumlines, allowing me to gain experience in the instruction of both classical and popular music styles. This has allowed me to hone my skills in integrating styles, as well as tailoring my instruction to the student's particular interests and needs.ter graduation, My greatest pleasure as an instructor is watching a student use the skills I have taught to develop his or her own unique "voice" and means of expression on the instrument, whether it be drumset, concert percussion, or piano. I tailor my method selection to suit the needs of the student. With so many wonderful methods out there, what it comes down to is what will help the student learn the most! I highly emphasize Music Theory and Aural Skills; I believe that students should understand what they are playing. This understanding leads to more accurate performances and more solid memorization skills. I try to keep the student's musical education moving forward steadily at whatever pace the student learns best. Read More

I emphasize the importance of developing good technique and a fundamental understanding of the basic components of music: major and minor scales, arpeggios, chords, modes and chord progressions. I believe that technical facility makes it easier to accomplish musical goals while developing musicianship. I like to tailor my lessons to each student using music that the student brings to me to create lessons and exercises. For students that like to uses books I like to use the Hal Leonard Method books for Guitar, Bass, Banjo, and Ukulele and the Alfred Method books for Piano and Drums. Read More

I teach children as young as 6, and adults well into retirement. I first assess the student's musical goals, then tailor the teaching method to achieve those goals. Some students want to just have fun, some want to learn "hum and strum", while others want to prepare for competitions or perfomances or go on to become professional musicians. Beginners and novice students first learn the basics of music theory by progressing through an established music course. Read More
