For my younger students I prefer using the Faber method books as well as "A Dozen A Day" for finger technique and dexterity. For intermediate and older students I introduce repertoire pieces in addition to leveled method books by Alfred. As my students progress I introduce classical pieces as well as suitable pop pieces based on their interest My older and adult students tend to be more goal oriented in their learning so lessons are developed based on their in individual needs. My teaching style is very organized, structured, but also with a creative approach. I believe in having fun while learning, but I do hold young artists accountable to accomplishing their weekly assignments/goals. My style has been developed over three decades, and I tailor my approach by getting to know each student individually. I take time to observe and understand the student's thinking style, learning style, method of communication, strengths, weaknesses, and motivation. Read More

Beyond what I've achieved personally, what truly makes my heart sing is teaching and sharing the joy of music. I'm really passionate about teaming up with local homeschools to give middle schoolers the chance to dive into music, especially if they don't have access to regular music classes. It's all about breaking down barriers and letting these eager minds discover their musical talents. On top of that, I bring my know-how to private teaching. Read More

For beginning students who are children I typically start with a book. We can pair that with playing different musical games and improvisation. For beginning adults I like to pick some simple songs that resonate and work towards learning them. I believe strongly in the diversity of the student. I realize that not everyone likes books. In addition to the building blocks I typically like to get right into learning by ear and improvisation with most students. Read More
