Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment. Teaching music is a very rewarding experience. Its often nice to see a student to be able to open their eyes and understand the music concept. Every child is different. My teaching style ranges from student to student. For example I love to see my students develop whether they're coming to me as a beginner, basic, intermediate, or advanced student. If I have a gospel vocal student, I work with them on rifts and runs. If I have a classical piano student I work with them on fingering techniques. I'm doing site reading for piano students or drummers. We use flash cards daily to keep the site reading fresh. Read More

I use books recommended to me by the music stores, Opus Winds in Decatur, Ga. I also consult with other music teachers at times and shop for music that my students tell me they would like to learn. I also tell them they can shop at musicnotes.com and I will help them learn to play pieces they like. There is something to be learned from the way any genre of music is composed. Read More
