My style is encouraging, easy-going, patient and understanding.  I explain things as many times as necessary in a calm friendly manner since I know students (and all the rest of us) don't remember stuff the first time it is heard—or played—or read. I encourage questions and discussions about practicing, repertoire, performing, and careers. To be sure time is well spent, I'll sometimes say, "Practice this piece just as you would if I were not here."  This way I can offer suggestions for learning pieces and methods more quickly.   Practice time should be a joyful time, full of a sense of accomplishment, and I am especially keen to help make this so for all students. I believe in music lessons there must be a balance. Especially on an instrument like guitar. Lessons should consist of a list of certain things almost like a checklist. First there is warm up and tuning. To make sure you are warmed up and in tune there are exersizes I like to start with my students. My beginning students learn the fundamentals of their instrument. I want every student to get a well rounded education from me. Woodwinds students study from Essential Elements. Young piano students use the Faber collection and older students use the Bastien series for the Older Beginner. Practical Theory from Sandy Feldstein is used for instrumental students. Spike and Party Cat piano theory books is used for younger piano students. I encourage students to learn solo pieces and memorize scales so they can audition for various festivals. Read More

I throughly enjoy making music. I started taking piano lessons when I was 5 years old and continued taking all the way through graduate school at TCU, where I graduated in 2016. Playing solo and collaborating with fellow musicians are still some of my favorite pass times. I enjoy playing all kinds of genres: Classical, pop, worship, Bossa Nova. Some of my most memorable experiences have been collaborative. From playing piano duets in grade school, singing in church choir, to accompanying in semi-professional competitions, like the Young Texas Artists Competition, I find performing with others is fun and exciting. For beginning piano students, I typically start with the Hal Leonard "My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner," series. As students progress in their piano studies, I begin introducing solo repertoire that will support the concepts being learned in the book series. I will also assign small writing projects from time to time, to sharpen students' compositional and music reading skills.
