I have been teaching private music lessons for more than 30 years at my home and at my student's homes.  After I received my Master's degree I obtained my teaching certificate in vocal and instrumental music for grades K - 12.  I taught vocal music for the Jersey City Board of Education and later I taught strings for the  Kearny Board of Education.  I prepared students for auditions and recitals always encouraging them to practice and learn music theory and music history. I want my students to learn the basic techniques on how to use their vocal chords, where to place their voices, how to memorize, how to hold the mic, how to emcee, how to phrase, express, improvise which really needs time in learning. My methods are largely dependent on each individual student - their own learning styles, goals, and interests guide the methods I use. For many of my beginning students who are children, I start with Faber's piano adventures. I use a mixture of method books, repetoire, and my own theory exercises until students can grasp solo repetoire. I also help students compose their own music, which we have fun doing! I recommend students who are beginners to utilize Alfred's Basic Piano Library Course (four levels) and Five-Star Solos, as these two method books have the organized systems and clear protocols to let players progress yet can review the fundamentals at the same time. For intermediate level, I prefer Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Basic Adult Country Book. I also recommend Contemporary Piano literature Book 2, Broadway Classics from the Young Pianist's Library Volume A, and the FJH Pianist's Curriculum Recital Book. Read More
