I base my teaching style on the individual student and how they learn.  Some students learn more by rote, others learn more by oral and others learn more by understanding theory.  I always incorporate proper technique so that the student developes as quickly as possible. For those students who like working from a more traditional sense I work primarily with the John Thompsen and Bastien Piano Methods. I pay a lot of attention to movement when playing the instrument, I try to do this from the lesson one with an absolute beginner. I consider knowing music theory to be important but secondary, so I try to familiarise my students (especially children) with the instrument from the very beginning keeping the amount of theoretical information minimal.
