Hi, I am a music instructor who strives to meet the musical needs and desires of every student of mine, through sharing my passion and love of music. I like to learn what my students' musical taste is, while at the same time making sure that they learn the necessary musical theory, history, and technique existent in the music we work on. I graduated from Long Island University-CW Post with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and I graduated from SUNY StonyBrook with a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, focusing solely on music. Every student learns at a different pace and many students learn differently. Music is an aural art form and I've found that many younger students haven't always heard a lot of music. I like to incorporate listening and appreciation in those cases. I like to encourage creativity and share ideas that show the student they can create music of their own. I like to see the student enjoy what they are doing and I like to point out their growth, especially when they feel frustrated. Read More

Most important to my teaching is that each student to listens to a lot of music, and learns to play the music that they love as soon as possible. I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. I also have many exercises of my own invention that are fun to listen to and play, while still remaining challenging and building facility. Read More

I have been teaching piano since 1998. I have taught in both private studios as well as a lot of group piano lessons. My students have varied greatly in interest levels from college bound piano majors to adults who just want to improve their playing, and learn something new while having fun, as well as many children who start because their parents want them too, but end up sticking around because they enjoy it. One of the biggest things I've learned from teaching students and being a student myself is that ultimately, the student's mindset and practice habits are the biggest determinant in their improvement. That is why I believe strongly in getting to know each individual student before designing a week-by-week curriculum that I feel is best for them. Books I tend to use often include the Faber "Piano Adventures" series, Hanon, and Bartok's "Mikrokosmos" (for sightreading practice). Read More

We can talk about: Instrumental Technique: Leaning to making a better, stronger, more in-tune and richer sound on your instrument. Improving how fast, and evenly your fingers can operate your instrument. Theoretical/Musical Technique: Ear Training - teaching you how to quickly recognize different chords, tonalities, and intervals just by hearing it once. Developing your ability to sing in tune! (A must for a good musician) Rhythm - working on metronome exercises, to develop a rock-steady internal clock to unlock your deepest possibly expression of the music. Read More

I am a strong advocate in fusing together practice and performance. I personally have had teachers that focused too much on technical studies and theory, and not enough time on incorporating those skills into performance; which is the main reason why many people have a desire to learn a musical instrument. In my lessons, I focus on developing skills that are essential to my student's overall musical development. These skills include music theory, ear training, rhythmic analysis, technique, and finally, applying all those skills into a performing setting. Read More
