I have been teaching guitar and piano to many different students. I love to teach and I think that it is one of the most wonderful things in life. I have been playing in shows since 1999, performing styles from classical music to blues, jazz and rock. I love to play and record live. Read More

I am an extremely motivated and passionate teacher whose main focus is for the student to have fun playing a string instrument. My goal is to instill music in the hearts of many people while training them for the skills necessary to produce such music. I graduated from the University of Delaware in 2010 and have been teaching in public schools for 5 years. Read More

My methods fall into 4 categories: 1) Essential Technique- Students will learn the basics from the Essential Elements books, Etude books such as Wolfahrt and Dont, and customized materials 2) Music Theory and History- Students will learn note reading, key signatures, scales and arpeggios, intervals, rhythm and music history through customized materials and games 3) Solo- Students will choose solos from the Suzuki violin/viola series, or another skill-appropriate solo 4) Ensemble- Once the student has basic familiarity with his or her instrument, I will find them an appropriate ensemble opportunity such as youth orchestra, All-County/All-State Orchestra, adult community orchestra or chamber music Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the Suzuki Method and playing by ear. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire on sheet music appropriate for their level of performance. It is important to stress the fundamentals of technique for my beginner students before just playing music. I like to incorporate music theory within their lessons, so not only are they able to hear a piece of music and can start playing but can also read sheet music that is put in front of them. Hi! Formally, I am a science teacher. I honestly don't know if I love teaching music or science more; I'm so captivated by both. I took off a year to finish a master's degree at UF, but now I'm back to what I love - teaching youth! I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. This degree has enabled me to become a much better instructor, as well as perceive student needs and adjust teaching for different learning styles. Read More

For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. Suzuki is also for beginners but it has a little more complex exercises which is why I wait to introduce Suzuki to them. Read More

I teach the basics first. I show my student how to hold the bow and the violin in detail. I explain that it will be awkward to hold the bow in correct position because it is unusual for person to hold the right hand that way. After several days of practice, this bow hold will become more natural to the student. Holding the violin in the proper position is also important in order to be able to play music. Read More
