However, I have found that the best way to engage students and maintain progress is not to keep too strictly to any one method, but to find what best suits each individual. My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. My teaching method books involve All for Strings and Suzuki books. Suzuki books are categorized from level 1-10, level 8-10 is the equivalent of college level repertoire. I currently have students on level 1-8. In addition, I also look for individual method books and outside repertoire of Suzuki once the student is ready to move at a faster pace or in need of additional help. I also encourage students to practice vocal-instrumental coordination when establishing the concepts of musical expression within structures. I adopt some ear training for younger students as they develop a sense of pitch and theoretical knowledge for adults who learn better with checkpoints. I start with the basics and for young students do nursery rhymes and songs they know,this makes it more enjoyable for them. I also ask them what music they would be interested in learning and see if I can find an easy version of this. Lately,the Encanto movie has been popular and Ive been teaching younger students these songs. Many of my teen students like to learn Beethoven and other classical composers. Read More
