My teaching experience includes working as Skills Instructor at a day program for adults with disabilities. There, I taught dance classes and sing alongs, meditation groups, cooking groups general life skills. I have also lead music in nursing homes for patients with dementia/Alzheimers. I have traveled throughout high school and college, along the east coast, to perform with choirs at churches, schools, and public events. I usually try to set small goals for my students each week especially for kids as a new instrument can seem like a daunting task. Something I like to do is encouraging a students own creativity and get them to try writing their own pieces or songs. Something I find helps a lot especially with kids is acknowledging their accomplishments because it will encourage them to progress in learning. The most important part of singing is making sure no harm is ever being done - so healthy technique is the key, then, we start to focus on depth of sound, etc. I try to help my students find a way to make singing as natural and simple as possible, without overthinking and becoming obsessive about rhythms or pitches. Of course everything should be accurate, but the more the vowels are forward (like in speech), the jaw and tongue can move freely and independently (just like when we yell), and the breath is constant, then everything will be in tune. I am a goal setter and overachiever so I like to work with the student to set goals that will not be discouraging. I believe that learning how to play an instrument/sing with others in an ensemble setting helps reinforce what we work on in the lesson. As a multi-instrumentalist, I enjoy finding songs we can eventually play together while implementing technique and structure. I love both teaching and performing voice and piano to all ages. My greatest passion is getting to share my love and lifelong pursuit of music with my students, no matter their level. When I am not teaching, I am often performing as a soprano soloist with prominent groups in Boston and around the country. In my teaching, I value healthy technique, music literacy (it is a language!), exposing students to diverse repertoire, and ample opportunities for students to play active roles in their creative development in music. Berklee has always been a dream of mine. I studied Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music in 2015. I worked with children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health. I had been an ardent member of the Berklee Indian Ensemble. I worked with various artists such as Vijay Prakash, Raghu Dixit, Indian Ocean and Shreya Ghoshal. I also went on a tour with them once.
