Regarding the actual playing, I emphasize playing slow and steady while keeping the flow of the music, even when it may be tempting to play an easier phrase faster while stopping to play a harder one. I find that progress is fastest playing with that patience in mind, getting a great feel for the music. Also, it's essential to come up with a unique practice plan for the student, accommodating their weekly schedule to find a consistent amount of practice time at their own pace. Read More

I have taught for over twenty years to all ages and levels. I teach the fun way by teaching the student what they would like to know by tailoring each lesson to fit there personal goals, needs and questions. I've taught all genres and also teach special needs including autistic, handicapped, and blind. As well I've also taught a couple grammy winning musicians. I encourage good effective practice methods instead of long tedious hours I prefer the student to concentrate on quality above quantity. Read More

For beginning piano students, I start them with a variety of materials, beginning with John Thompson's piano books, along with stanzas of finger exercises to develop dexterity. But more importantly for me, is that I understand that people, especially now, want to start playing songs as soon as possible. So, I immediately teach them chords and scales. Weekly, I introduce a new one so they get comfortable and then get them used to moving from chord to chord. Read More

As soon as I meet with a student or a group of students, I make sure they are welcomed by an energetic teacher before getting started on their lesson. I try to keep the student(s) engaged by showing them different ways and approaches to music from books and my own personal approaches to help them grow knowing their teacher is well experienced. Since their is a lot for a percussionist than just playing with sticks on a drum, there is no doubt that the endless possibilities in teaching students the various instruments will help keep them engaged as well being more excited about music. My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. Ive found that introducing students to as many different styles of music as possible goes a long way in helping students enjoy playing their instrument and listening to recordings of their instrument. In my experience as a teacher, I have worked on a personal level with my students encouraging regular practice. It's important to get to know the student and keep track of their evolution. I notice that the students who advance the most are the ones who experience playing with other people. Possibly one of the best ways to learn music is being in a band. I encourage my students to have projects like this because it helps them understand quickly what music is all about. Read More
