Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs in the style they want to learn. p> Read More

I began teaching part time when I was in college. After moving to Dallas, I continued to teach part time while attending graduate school. Upon graduation, I began teaching full time during the day at public schools and evenings in my own studio. Encouraging reguler practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for my students. This tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the flute. Read More

As a flute player, where would we be without the teachings of Trevor Wye, Marcel Moyse, Paul Taffanel and Philippe Gaubert? Of course, I will start by determining where they are at, a test, so to say. For the beginners, I like to start with the Trevor Wye beginners books. As they grow more advanced, we will look at separate books such as the 24 melodic studies by Moyse and intermediate books that are also by Wye. Read More

For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. For the advanced student, the focus becomes about fine-tuning fundamentals, and learning repertoire that will propel them forward to the next level. Read More

I teach music, not just instruments. I try to develop a broad appreciation for music that will stay with my students wherever they go in life. I take an individualized approach based on learning styles and strengths. I believe in positive reinforcement, especially with younger students! I also take into account preferences for music styles and attempt to use repertoire that not only broadens their experience, but keeps students focused and interested. Read More

I am a sixth semester student at Berklee College of Music, dual majoring in saxophone performance and jazz composition, and have studied with many inspiring professors as well as learned from many amazing educators. Since entering Berklee I have been able to not only study the material and concepts, but I have also gotten to study professors and how they educate students of all different backgrounds, all different levels of understanding, and how they navigate teaching a class with students who are all at different stages and levels of grasping material. I am dedicated and passionate flutist whose goal is to create meaningful musical experiences for audiences and students alike. Music is one of the most important and inspiring things I do everyday and I am grateful to have the opportunity to share it with students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I graduated with a Masters degree in Flute Performance from the University of New Mexico and, most recently, served as interim principal flutist for the Queretaro Philharmonic in Mexico. Read More
