My teaching curriculum generally involves a degree of structure mixed with topics of student interest. For example, there are certain aspects of music that any student should probably learn in order to gain a true understanding of musicianship. Likewise, I certainly understand that it is important to find joy in the journey, and to tailor guitar lessons to each individual student. My hope is that each of my students will come away with a quality education in music. Read More

I'm passionate about teaching and getting my students excited about learning and progressing with their instrument. I focus on a personalized curriculum, not a "one size fits all" approach. I played guitar professionally for over 10 years in California - writing, performing and touring the original music club circuit from L.A. to Sacramento including dates at the famous Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles and The Fillmore in San Francisco. My favorite part about teaching is teaching beginners. It's so much fun to introduce a brand new instrument to someone and show them all that learning music has to offer. I mainly focus on the basics of music, and music theory in order to give students the tools they need to teach themselves when I'm not around, or if lessons have to discontinue for some reason. Once the basics of music theory have been grasped, it makes learning the technical aspects of the new instrument much faster, and easier. Read More

Taking lessons with Damon Carlucci, I learned how to delve into genres for music knowledge. Here I also learned Jazz and what it meant to be a Jazz musician. Ever since then, I have been using what I have learned to see the notes I want to play on the fretboard and adapt it to whatever setting, feeling or group I am playing in. My teaching style is what I call allied teaching. Even though we need to study the mathematics of music, so to speak, we cannot forget that music is art and art is not exact. Music has an infinite number of paths to offer you and even if you know all the scales that exist, if you don't know how to apply them in a harmonious and spontaneous way you will be stuck in the same place. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
