I have been teaching oof and on for the last 20 years. I have been playing professionally for the last 27 years. I played in my high school marching band and in the symphonic orchestra. If the students are enrolled in a band program, I try to go with the book used in school, while adding in supplemental material as I see necessary. I try to introduce numerous etude books including Ferling, Klose, and Rascher as a progression out of the method books previously mentioned. For the intermediate students I work on Clark studies and intersperse getchel etudes for artistic development.
