I have been teaching since getting my masters in 1999 - from Brooklyn and NYC to New Haven, CT, where I now teach vocal technique to all ages at the Educational Center for The Arts (Performing Arts High School) and at the Neighborhood Music School. For beginning students, what I start with generally depends on what instrument they play, but in general, I use various "Essentials" books. As the student progresses past the fundamentals of music and playing their instrument, I will move on to more advanced or technical musical exercises, as well as solo repertoire if the student is looking to perform for a recital, NYSSMA, etc. My teaching style for older, more advanced students is relatively the same, excluding the "Essentials" and fundamentals. My teaching style relaxed yet firm and consistent week-to-week. I expect all my students to practice and highly encourage them to perform in a recital as often as they feel comfortable. I encourage the parents to oversee practicing during the week and give me feedback as often as necessary. My passion is performing music and teaching others how to do the same. Most of my performance experience is on saxophone in the jazz, rock, blues, and pop genres. However, I also have a great passion for classical music and recorded a classical album titled Contrasts available on all streaming platforms. I have more than 10 years of experience teaching private saxophone, flute, and clarinet lessons.
