I love watching my students grow and develop into wonderful, passionate musicians. In order to see this growth, it is important to provide an environment in which a student feels free to express themselves. As I believe expression and creativity to be the fundamentals of music making, a student needs to be able to have fun and be themselves during a lesson. As soon as a student becomes disinterested, the ability to grow and make music has been lost. Read More

I have had the privileged of working with many successful musicians. After studying the way they taught me and other students, I feel that the best lesson plans are ones that are catered to the individual student. It is important to know what the student wants to accomplish, then build a lesson plan from there. For a beginning student, we start with essential fundamentals, for a more advanced student, I would guide my instruction based on the student goals. Read More

Before committing to long term lessons with a student, I like to get to know my student and their musical goals. Want to get the lead in your school musical? Or audition for that advanced choir class? Or maybe Depending on the age and skill level of my students, I assign 1-5 repertoire pieces to work on. For my performing students, I stress the importance of having multiple audition pieces under your belt at all times. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as i began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and i have been consistently teaching students in-person and online for about 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy percussion and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

There is nothing more fulfilling for me than witnessing one of my students discover and nurture a genuine passion for music! To foster this enthusiasm, it is crucial that each student is allowed to progress at their own individual pace. I achieve this by establishing realistic, attainable goals for each lesson, which are tailored to the specific needs and skill levels of my students. Recognizing and celebrating accomplishmentsno matter how smallplays a vital role in maintaining a students motivation and enthusiasm. Read More

I firmly support my personal slogan, "Teaching to learn loving to teach", because ultimately that's the meaning of teaching. Teaching is essentially for the student to learn the material, but at the same time the student is teaching me patience and joy. I base my teaching method on my strong enthusiastic, optimistic, patient, and loving character. I make sure the student feels comfortable and take any amount of time until they thoroughly understand the subject of choice. Read More

At that age, it's all about their goals, since the students are self-sufficient and able to decide what's best for their goals on their own. As far as method books go, I like Hal Leonard's Essential Elements (I've used those methods a lot when teaching middle school band) for young students, Hanon's exercises and Bela Bartok's Mikrokosmos for intermediate piano, and trips to Guitar Center for adult guitarists (I'm serious: John Petrucci has a great method for Rock Guitar, for example).
