I've found the best way to teach is to cater to each student's interest. While early or beginning players may require some fundamental grunt work, there is always a way to assure that it's fun too. Earlier students would need to start learning the basics: rhythm, learning to read, developing technique through scales etc. of which there are many methods. As students mature, I feel the Suzuki method for aspiring classical students is the best route (there are multiple books in this series) along with some other extensive and more challenging works. One on one and individualized instruction. I also demonstrate and perform the songs to my students so that they can have an idea on how to go about playing the song. I teach by rote, demonstration and give them a step by step explanation on how to play the song or music. Read More

I will start off my lessons with the Bastien Piano Basics course. The student will use a lesson book, a performance book, a technique book and a theory book. Once the student has reached a certain level, they will begin lessons in Piano Literature and John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. My adult students will use the Bastien Piano for Adults series, and they may also want to use John Thompson's Modern Course for the Piano. Read More

My name is Joshua. I am a 26 year old pianist who has been playing for 20 years. I am an experienced teacher, performer, and composer. I play around town in a Jazz duo, as well as in a 3 person band. I have been teaching for over 5 years and enjoy helping my students expand their mind and reach their goals for musical education. I like to find a piece from a composer or recent artist that the student enjoys so that we can balance the more tedious elements of the lesson with something fun. Read More

My first goal is keeping music fun. One of the easiest ways to start this is by knowing why a student wants to learn the guitar. With that, I can set realistic expectations from week to week and encourage them as they make accomplishments. I try to incorporate songs early on. There is some amount learning of chords and other fundamentals needed, but it doesn't take much to start playing. Read More

For my beginner students, who are younger, I start off with the Faber series in the Primer levels. After progressing through the first few levels of the series, I then start to introduce solo repertoire depending on the interests of the student. For my older students, we also go through the Faber Adult Piano Adventures book, where we learn the basics of piano along with some fun pieces. I teach more information outside of the book which is not taught until later to get ahead. Read More
