I tailor each of my lessons to the needs and desires of each individual. I am fond of using method books such as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements or Bruce Peterson's Standard of Excellence (or, with school children in a band program, whatever their method book may be), but I also like to bring separate handouts or sheets of exercises, drills, and songs that I have created over the years. I started playing piano at age 5 and finished a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Piano Pedagogy from Saint Louis University. My 16 years of classical training helped me attain a teaching position at the Yamaha School of Music in the Philippines and a rewarding teaching career at the Florida Conservatory of Music in Jacksonville, Florida. In my experience, the love to play outweighs the need to learn. If you're not having fun you'll quit. Plain and simple. I've actually never charged anyone for lessons. In college, anytime someone close asked for lessons I was excited because I just wanted to share my passion with others.
