I began teaching guitar part-time about 6 years ago as a side job, on top of my then-main gig as a grocery store clerk. Slowly but surely, however, I added more and more students to my roster and was able to phase out the grocery store job, and today I teach guitar full time! I realized the power of music at a very young age, when I first started singing in a musical theater workshop. I was incredibly shy up until I got to sing as someone else. The music transported me from my rather hectic childhood to a place beyond trouble, and only to freedom and expression. The first teaching concept I focus on is the capacity to produce great sounds with the least amount of effort. Therefore I spend some time in getting the student to play very relaxed to create a relationship with body and mind, I believe music is an extension of the body and so if the mind and body are relaxed then music will come out flawless. I began teaching private voice and piano lessons in 2008. My students have completed level 1 and 2 NYSSMA festivals. I have a piano student working on piano level 3 this year. Besides teaching private voice and piano lessons, I also teach middle school chorus for the New York City Department of Education. At my school, I also serve as vocal director for the school musical.
