I also recently worked for Music Center of the Northwest, a nonprofit community music school in North Seattle, specializing in student and community relations. As a teacher, I specialize in teaching beginners, moving quickly to establish a quality of tone and practice procedures to master the instrument for whatever purpose (school enrichment, personal enjoyment, performance, auditions for college, whatever you want to do!) I have experience working with adults who want to revisit an instrument they put down, and who want to learn for the first time! Read More

During my undergraduate time I was apart of those vocal ensembles and worked closely with professors and students to write, arrange and perform full length vocal compositions. Soon after graduation, I was a full-time musician giving freelance voice lessons, and also teaching jazz voice while an artist in residency at Duke Ellington. During my time at Duke, I continued to perform and record around Washington, DC. This is where I began to be recognized for my talent, and was approached by an independent label who would soon thereafter move me to Atlanta, Ga to pursue my goal of being a full-time artist. My teaching experience began during my college years, as I commenced providing private lessons on a part-time basis eight years ago. For the past five years, I have been devoted to teaching students in my home studio. I emphasize the importance of regular practice on a consistent schedule, particularly for younger students, as this approach significantly contributes to their progress and fosters a passion for the instrument. I have also observed that incorporating a mix of classical and contemporary music greatly enhances students' enjoyment of the piano, thereby motivating them to practice and continue their learning journey. Hi, my name is Paul and I have been teaching in the private sector since 2009. I earned my degree in Guitar Perfrmance and Theoryfrom Atlanta Institute of Music in 2010 and haven't looked back since. Guitar is my primary interest but I also play mandolin, dobro, piano and bass. I have been fortunate enough to tour the world with my band5 times now but when I'm not on the road, I love teaching and sharing my knowledge of music with all those willing to learn and take the leap. I don't offer a common style of lessons with all students, instead I design a course of study based upon each student's interests, personality, and the direction they want to go with their music, and after a few sessions of working together, I like to select repertoire that showcases them well and peaks their interests. Some techniques and concepts are commonly shared within the studio, however sessions may take a different direction of music study based on discovering a student's strengths and weaknesses and how to build upon on certain areas in their training so his/her lesson is productive. It's all about having a clear goal in mind and working towards it: we'll have conversations about objectives and musical preferences (classical? jazz? rock and pop?) and then develop goals based on those preferences (playing live? what kind of pieces/songs?). Once I have an idea of where the student wants to be, I share my lesson plans with them and tell them what particular exercises or songs/pieces will fit those goals. Read More

Generally, my teaching style depends on the student. Why is that? Everyone is unique, and everyone learns differently. It would be absolutely foolish of me to ever think that I can use one teaching method or style for each and every student. So I teach based on the student's learning style and predispositions. Also I tend to do alot of finger techniques as well as aural training, because I believe even though music reading is essential, it does you no good if you can't respond musically to the sounds and the nuances of your environment.
