Effective music education is both developmentally and culturally appropriate: By working with the student to understand their interests, I hope to provide them with an experience that will enrich their musical and social life outside of the work we do together. Through infancy, I believe Music Learning Theory is effective for developing musical and linguistic skills. Principally a stage performer, I've been teaching for about 5 years, beginning with a Master Class on Song Performance at the Shakespeare Theater Company. I've given individual lessons for about 2 years (professionally), specializing in musical theater and acting, helping young performers learn what I wish I had at their stage of career. These days, that often means translating years of theatrical training into on-camera audition technique (a specialty of mine). I am at home in many venues, whether it is the concert hall, the intimate setting of the recital platform, or on the operatic stage. I have performed over one hundred different roles at the Metropolitan Opera and am heard often on the "Live from the Met" Sirius Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts, as well as televised performances from the stage of the opera house. My teaching style is a something I consider to be a hybrid: I combine the academic knowledge I have gained since I started my first piano lesson at four years old, along with the real life experience I obtained as a full-time traveling musician. I take this unique style of teaching and apply it in a very engaging and stimulating learning environment.
