There are two major philosophies I've uncovered when teaching lessons. 1. The use of descending lines to erase the "break" in ones voice. Early while studying, myself, I was taught to sing ascending, trying to maintain the same sound - this is defeating. Rather, bringing the top down is the "way to go." 2. Keeping the sound forward makes changing from one vowel to another quite easy and palpable. We generally begin by humming, getting vibrations away from the throat and into the front of the mouth. After learning about the student's musical taste, I usually pick the music that the student will learn in our lessons, this especially goes for beginners. Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest.  With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique.  If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. I began teaching private lessons about four years ago. Originally I used it as a means to practice teaching but I fell in love with the process and have continued ever since. I have taught at various music studios as an in-studio instructor and also as an in-home instructor. It is my goal to make each lesson enjoyable for the students.
