It's important to me that students enjoy what they are singing--if they don't, they won't be motivated, are less likely to practice, and they won't progress as quickly. Still, I believe students should sing a variety of literature (and may even find something they didn't know they enjoyed), and regularly start beginning students with some simple Italian art songs. My training begins at age 9, when I receive a scholarship from the prestigious Julio Bocca institution to do musical comedy training.
