Posture and Breathing are critical to emphasize every time we pick up our instrument. No matter what we are performing, this always applies and will be addressed as need be. For beginning students who are ages 8-13 will first use the Standard of Excellence red book and then they will transfer to the blue book. Intermediate and Advance will use the Foundations for superior performance book. We will start to pick solos that they are able to play and work on them. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! Music is fun! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I graduated in 2014 with my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Utah State University and, in 2018, my Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Kansas. I had the opportunity to be a part of the Chamber Singers at both schools where I was able to perform across Utah as well as Dallas, Kansas City, China and Costa Rica.
