As a teacher, I am an excellent communicator. I pay close attention to my students and am able to see their strengths and weaknesses. I go at the pace of my student. As a teacher, I work with consistent methods that cater to the students' individual needs. I also display a passion for the music that inspires my students. Not only do I teach the mechanics, but I love to spend a few minutes engaging in conversation analyzing the student's interpretation of the music. Read More

Several of my students have gone on to have careers in the music industry. One of my students is Candi Lynn who was kind enough to give me a "shout out " on the sleeve notes of her first CD. http://www.candilynn.com/ I set realistic goals for my students and I'm always honest. Success is 90 percent perspiration and 10 percent inspiration. Hard work always pays off. I work to find out what a student's strengths are and help develop them. Read More

Teaching Experience: 20yrs+. I have students with different ages from youngest ages 5 years to seniors 85+. When I meet students for the first time, I try to learn their musical background and listen to their ability so I can find their best way to improve their abilities. For younger ages, I try to be more fun and define how they concentrate, so I can choose the right materials to teach them and guide their way to accomplish their goals. Read More

I believe you already on your journey to who you want to be, so it is just a privilege to help and watch you get there. I am big on encouragement as well as introspection, so that when I'm not around, you know the questions to ask to work through any challenges you may be experience. Getting you out of your comfort zone is also a focus of mine. A lot of people are closer to their goals than they think, if they would just try. Read More

Music is deeply personal; one must get to know each student's own personality, interests, and connections to music. Early on (both in the teaching relationship and in each lesson) one must assess where the student is, as to technical and musical growth, and with the music at hand. Then one finds, models, explains and encourages the next steps the student can achieve. Clear guidance and dialogue about what will happen outside the studio (listening, practice, rehearsal, performance) helps turn the weekly cycle of lessons into an upward spiral of progress, achievement, and reward. When I was 15 years old I began teaching to a few kids I knew from high school on guitar. I also began teaching my friend Max Kroll's little brother who was only in 3rd grade at the time. I continued teaching on and off for money and just for friends who wanted to learn throughout the last ten years. I believe like anything else teaching music lessons is about networking and keeping a positive reputation so students will refer me other students. Read More

Because everyone learns differently, I teach from a technique I've developed which I refer to as the blank slate method. Though I do utilize workbooks for their very informative and easy to understand nature, I prefer to teach each student based on what they know or what comes naturally to them. This involves you the student, your instrument, and a pen and paper. For beginner students who are children, we work together to learn a simple song so that they can feel a sense of accomplishment and be further motivated to continue their studies. Read More
